Removal Procedure

  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling .
  2. Caution: Refer to Sensing and Diagnostic Module Voltage after Ignition is Turned Off Caution in the Preface section.

    Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in the Preface section.

  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4. Caution: Refer to SIR Inflator Module Handling and Storage Caution in the Preface section.

  5. Remove the driver SIR module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Replacement .
  6. Remove the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement .
  7. Remove the screws (1) and the upper and lower steering column covers (2).

  8. Object Number: 1280463  Size: SH
  9. Carefully remove the instrument panel lower cover.
  10. Disconnect the driver SIR, horn and remote audio control switch connectors at the lower steering column.
  11. Remove the screws (1) from the steering wheel module coil (2)
  12. Remove the steering wheel module coil (2) from the steering shaft.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 1280463  Size: SH
  1. Install the steering wheel module coil. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Coil Centering .
  2. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  3. Install the coil mounting screws.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the screws to 3 N·m (27 lb in).

  5. Connect the driver SIR, horn and remote audio control switch connectors at the lower steering column.
  6. Carefully install the instrument panel lower cover.

  8. Install the upper and lower steering column covers (2) and secure with screws (1).
  9. Install the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement .
  10. Install the driver SIR module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Replacement
  11. Caution: When enabling the SIR system, be extremely careful when installing the fuse and/or turning the ignition switch on. Stand clear of the inflator module and verify no loose objects are directly in front of the inflator modules. Possible personal injury or vehicle damage could result if an accidental deployment were to occur.

  12. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling .
  13. Connect the negative battery cable.
