Removal Procedure

    Notice: Refer to Vehicle Lifting and Jacking Notice in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 1265749 Size: SH
  1. Release the parking brake.
  2. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  3. Remove the brake drum.
  4. Remove the parking brake retaining clip from the backing plate.
  5. Remove the parking brake cable from the brake shoe lever and from the brake backing plate.

  6. Remove the nuts that fasten the parking brake cable to the bracket on the rear axle.
  7. Remove the cable from the bracket.

    8. Object Number: 1265751 Size: SH
  8. Remove the bolts that fasten the parking brake cable to the bracket on the underbody.
  9. Remove the bolts that fasten the parking brake cable to the bracket on the fuel tank bracket.

    10. Object Number: 1265745 Size: SH
  10. Remove the adjustment nut from the parking brake cable.
  11. Remove the parking brake cable.

Installation Procedure
  1. Install the parking brake cable.

    2. Object Number: 1265745 Size: SH
  2. Install the adjustment nut to the parking brake cable.

    3. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  3. Install the bolts that fasten the parking brake cable to the bracket on the fuel tank bracket.

    4. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 6  N·m (53 lb in).

    5. Install the bolts that fasten the parking brake cable to the bracket on the underbody.

    Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 6  N·m (53 lb in).

  5. Install the cable in the bracket.
  6. Install the nuts that fasten the parking brake cable to the bracket on the rear axle.

    7. Tighten
    Tighten the nuts to 6  N·m (53 lb in).

  7. Install the parking brake cable to the brake shoe lever and the brake backing plate.
  8. Install the parking brake retaining clip to the backing plate.
  9. Install the brake drum.

  10. Inspect the parking brake adjustment.
