If your vehicle has this feature, you can lock and unlock your doors from about 20 ft (6 m) away using the remote keyless entry transmitter. The operating range of the transmitter will vary due to environmental conditions.

In addition, a theft-deterrent system can be activated to monitor and set off a horn alarm if the vehicle's door or liftgate is opened without first unlocking the door or liftgate with the remote keyless entry transmitter.

The remote keyless entry system consists of a receiver, which is located in the vehicle, and two transmitters.

If your vehicle has this feature, the transmitter is located in the key head. The following functions are available with the remote keyless entry system:

Lock: Press the Lock button to lock all of the doors. In addition, if all the doors and the liftgate are closed, the hazard lamps will flash once and the vehicle theft-deterrent system will arm. See Theft-Deterrent System .

Unlock: Press the Unlock button to unlock all of the doors. In addition, the hazard lamps will flash twice and the theft-deterrent system will disarm. See Theft-Deterrent System .

The LED light (A) on the transmitter flashes when the transmitter buttons are pressed.

Matching Transmitter(s) to Your Vehicle

Each remote keyless entry transmitter is coded to prevent another transmitter from unlocking your vehicle. If a transmitter is lost or stolen, a replacement can be purchased through your dealer. Remember to bring any remaining transmitters with you when you go to your dealer. When the dealer matches the replacement transmitter to your vehicle, any remaining transmitters must also be matched. Once your dealer has coded the new transmitter, the lost transmitter will not unlock your vehicle. Each vehicle can have a maximum of five transmitters matched to it.

Battery Replacement

Under normal use, the battery in your remote keyless entry transmitter should last about two years.

You can tell the battery is weak if the transmitter will not work at the normal range in any location. If you have to get close to your vehicle before the transmitter works, it is probably time to change the battery.

Notice: When replacing the battery, do not touch any of the circuitry on the transmitter. Static from your body could damage the transmitter.

To replace the battery in the transmitter, do the following:

1. Remove the screw on the back cover of the transmitter.
2. Open the cover of the transmitter.
3. Pull the transmitter unit out of the cover and carefully detach the sticker from the unit. Keep the sticker clean.
4. Gently pry the battery out of the transmitter. Do not use a metal object.
5. Put the new battery into the transmitter. The negative (-) side should face down toward the base. For battery replacement, use a three-volt battery, type CR1620, or an equivalent.
6. Attach the sticker and put the transmitter unit in the cover.
7. Reassemble the two parts of the transmitter and fasten the screw carefully. Make sure the cover is on tightly, so water will not get in.
8. Press the Lock or the Unlock buttons on the transmitter three times within 20 seconds.
9. Test the transmitter operation.
