  1. Turn ON the ignition.
  2. Observe the fuel gage.

Does the fuel gage always indicate a full fuel tank even though it has been established that the tank is not full?

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the fuel tank sending unit.
  3. Turn ON the ignition.

Does the fuel gage change to empty?

--

Go to Step 3

Go to Step 4

Replace the fuel tank sending unit.

Did you complete the repair?

--

System OK

--

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the instrument cluster connector terminal C14.
  3. Turn ON the ignition.

Does the fuel gage now indicate an empty fuel tank?

--

Go to Step 5

Go to Step 6

Repair the short to ground in the WH or GY wire between the instrument cluster connector and the fuel tank sending unit.

Did you complete the repair?

--

System OK

Replace the fuel gage.

Did you complete the repair?

--

System OK

  1. If the fuel tank shows empty even though it has been established that the tank is not empty, disconnect the fuel tank sending unit electrical connector.
  2. Turn ON the ignition.
  3. Measure the voltage at the fuel tank sending unit connector terminal 1.

Does the voltage measure within the specified value?

11-14 V

Go to Step 9

Go to Step 8

Repair the open circuit between the fuel gage and the fuel tank sending unit.

Did you complete the repair?

System OK

Measure the continuity of the wire between the fuel tank sending unit connector terminal 6 and ground.

Does the resistance measure the specified value?

0 ohms

Go to Step 11

Go to Step 10

Repair the open circuit or the poor connection between ground and the fuel tank sending unit connector.

Did you complete the repair?

--

System OK

  1. With the fuel tank sending unit connector disconnected, attach a jumper between ground and terminal 1.
  2. Turn ON the ignition.

Does the fuel gage move to full?

--
