Diagnostic Aids

The front fog lamp switch is powered by the headlamp switch, so the fog lamps may not operate if the headlamps or taillamps will not turn ON.

Inspect fuses EF14 and EF17.

Is EF14 and EF17 blown?

  1. Inspect for a short circuit and repair if necessary.
  2. Replace fuses EF14 and EF17.

Is the repair complete?

Use a voltmeter to measure if battery voltage is available at fuse EF14 and EF17.

Does the voltmeter measure within the specified value?

11-14 V

Go to Step 7

Repair the power supply to fuses EF14 and EF17.

Is the repair complete?

--

System OK

  1. Disconnect the connectors at the front fog lamps.
  2. Use an ohmmeter to measure the resistance between ground and the BK wire at the fog lamps.

Is the ohmmeter equal to the specified value?

0 ohms

Go to Step 9

Repair the open ground circuit for the front fog lamps.

Is the repair complete?

System OK

  1. With the fog lamps disconnected, turn the front fog lamps to the ON position.
  2. Turn ON the headlamps.
  3. Inspect the voltage at the GRY wire at the front fog lamp connectors.

Is the voltage within the specified value?

11-14 V

Go to Step 10

Replace the fog lamp bulbs. Refer to Front Fog Lamp Replacement .

Is the repair complete?

System OK

  1. Temporarily substitute the exterior illumination relay (taillamp relay) in place of the front fog lamp relay.
  2. Turn ON the headlamps.
  3. Turn the front fog lamp switch to the ON position.

Do the front fog lamps work with the substituted relay?

--

Go to Step 12

  1. Return the substituted relay to its original position.
  2. Replace the front fog lamp relay.

Is the repair complete?

--

System OK

  1. Return the substituted relay to its original position, but do not reinstall the front fog lamp relay at this time.
  2. Use a voltmeter to probe each of the four terminals in the front fog lamp relay socket.

Is one of the four terminals in the relay socket within the specified value?

11-14 V

Go to Step 15

Replace the engine fuse block.

Is the repair complete?

  1. Turn ON the headlamps.
  2. Turn the front fog lamp switch to the ON position.
  3. Probe the front fog lamp relay socket with the voltmeter.

Besides the terminal which indicated battery voltage in Step 13, does another terminal in the relay socket, relay coil positive terminal, now within the specified value?

11-14 V

  1. Turn ON the headlamps.
  2. Inspect the voltage at the PU wire at the front fog lamp switch.

Is the voltmeter within the specified value?

Repair the open circuit between the headlamp switch and the front fog lamp switch.

Is the repair complete?

System OK

  1. With the front fog lamp switch disconnected, connect an ohmmeter between the two terminals of the front fog lamp switch.
  2. Turn the front fog lamp switch to the ON position.

Is the ohmmeter equal to the specified value?

0 ohms

Go to Step 20

Replace the front fog lamp switch.

Is the repair complete?

--

System OK

Repair the open circuit between the front fog lamp switch and the front fog lamp relay.

Is the repair complete?

Measure for the resistance between the ground and the ground terminal at the front fog lamp relay socket. The ground terminal at the relay socket is diagonally opposite from the relay coil positive terminal which was identified in Step 15.

Is the ohmmeter equal to the specified value?

0 ohms

Repair the ground circuit for the front fog lamp relay.
