Removal Procedure
- Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
- Remove the shoe and the lining. Refer to Brake Shoe Replacement .
- Remove the wheel cylinder. Refer to Wheel Cylinder Replacement .
- Plug the opening in the brake line in order to prevent fluid loss or contamination.
- Remove the rear wheel bearing and hub assembly. Refer to Rear Wheel Bearing and Hub Replacement .
- Remove the spindle shaft.
- Remove the parking brake retaining clip from the backing plate.
- Separate the backing plate and the gasket.
Installation Procedure
- Connect the backing plate and the new gasket.
- Install the parking brake retaining clip to the backing plate.
- Install the spindle shaft.
- Install the rear wheel bearing and hub assembly. Refer to Rear Wheel Bearing and Hub Replacement .
- Remove the plug from the brake line opening.
- Install the wheel cylinder. Refer to Wheel Cylinder Replacement .
- Install the shoe and the lining. Refer to Brake Shoe Replacement .
- Bleed the brake system.
- Adjust the parking brake.
