Circuit/System Description

The electronic brake control module (EBCM) monitors the system voltage level available for ABS operation. A low voltage condition prevents the ABS system from operating properly.

Conditions for Running the DTC

Ignition is ON.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

This fault will be set if the system voltage to EBCM is less than 9 V for 100 msec.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

    • Antilock Brake System (ABS) and Traction Control System (TCS) are disabled for the duration of the ignition cycle.
    • The ABS and TCS indicators illuminates on the IPC.
    • The DIC displays the Service Stability System message, if equipped.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

    • The condition for the DTC is no longer present.
    • The EBCM automatically clears the history DTC when a current DTC is not detected in 100 consecutive drive cycles.

Diagnostic Aids

A low voltage DTC in multiple modules indicates a concern in the charging system.

Circuit/System Verification

  1. Engine running measure and record the voltage at the battery terminals. Verify that the battery voltage is 12.6-15.5 V.
  2. If the battery voltage is not within the specified range, refer to Charging System Test.
  3. Observe the scan tool EBCM battery positive voltage parameter. The reading should be between 12.6 and 15.5 V.

Circuit/System Testing

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the EBCM.
  2. Ignition OFF and scan tool disconnected, open and close the driver door, and wait 1 minute. Test for less than 5 Ω between the ground circuit terminal  16 and ground:
  3. If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuits for an open/high resistance.
  4. Ignition ON, verify a test lamp illuminates between the IGN / B+ circuit terminals listed below and ground.
  5. • B+ Terminal 1
    • B+ Terminal 32
    • IGN Terminal 8
If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the IGN / B+ circuits for a short to ground or an open/high resistance.
  6. If the circuits test normal, replace the EBCM.

Repair Instructions

Perform the Diagnostic Repair Verification after completing the diagnostic procedure.
