Removal Procedure

    Warning: Refer to Approved Equipment for Collision Repair Warning in the Preface section.

  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling.
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection.

  3. Object Number: 1710158  Size: SH
  4. Remove all related panels and components.
  5. Repair as much of the damage as possible to factory specifications. Refer to Dimensions - Body.
  6. Note the location and remove the sealers and anti-corrosion materials from the repair area, as necessary. Refer to Anti-Corrosion Treatment and Repair.

  7. Object Number: 1710159  Size: SH

    Note: Do not damage any inner panels or reinforcements.

  8. Locate and remove all factory welds attaching the hood hinge bracket to the frame rail. Note the number and location of the welds for installation of the new hood hinge bracket.

  10. Remove the damaged hood hinge bracket.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 1710161  Size: SH
  1. Prepare all mating surfaces as necessary for welding.
  2. Apply GM-approved Weld-Thru Coating or equivalent to all mating surfaces. Refer to Anti-Corrosion Treatment and Repair.
  3. Position the front hood hinge bracket to the vehicle. Ensure proper positioning of the front hood hinge bracket by using 3-dimensional measuring equipment. Clamp the hood hinge bracket into place.

  4. Object Number: 1710162  Size: SH
  5. Using a MIG-welder, weld the hood hinge bracket to the vehicle, duplicating the factory welds.
  6. Clean and prepare all welded surfaces.
  7. Apply the sealers and anti-corrosion materials to the repair area, as necessary. Refer to Anti-Corrosion Treatment and Repair.
  8. Paint the repair area. Refer to Paint Identification.
  9. Install all related panels and components.
  10. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection.
  11. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling.
