J 42058 Frame Adapter Clamp

Removal Procedure

    Warning: Refer to Approved Equipment for Collision Repair Warning in the Preface section.

  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling.
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection.
  3. Remove all related panels and components.

  4. Object Number: 1617501  Size: SH
  5. Remove the bolts holding the rear end panel to the rear end compartment.

  6. Object Number: 1850820  Size: SH

    Note: The temperature will need to reach 300-500 degrees for the rear end panel to be released from the adhesive.

  7. Remove the rear end panel by applying heat, and prying to detach the adhesive along the bonding surface.
  8. Note: Note the location of the urethane adhesive.

  9. Remove the entire urethane adhesive using a pneumatic knife or equivalent.
  10. Inspect the rear structure and frame rails for damage.
  11. Repair as much of the damage as possible to the factory specifications.
  12. Use J 42058 to secure the vehicle if pulling and straightening is required.

Installation Procedure

    Note: Shims may be necessary to achieve proper panel alignment.

  1. Before applying the adhesive, dry fit the rear end panel for proper fit and alignment.
  2. Clean and prepare all bonding mating surfaces according to the adhesive manufacturer's recommendations.

  3. Object Number: 1850761  Size: SH

    Note: Do not top coat any bonding surface. Use windshield urethane primer only on bonding surfaces. Refer to the adhesive manufacturer's recommendations.

  4. Use a urethane adhesive kit or equivalent to apply a consistent bead of urethane adhesive 10 mm (3/8 in) in diameter to the mating surfaces of the rear end panel and to all areas originally bonded. Refer to Urethane Adhesive Panel Bonding.

  6. Install the rear end panel.

  7. Object Number: 1850847  Size: SH
  8. Apply pressure to the rear end panel to set the adhesive.
  9. Remove any excess adhesive.

  10. Object Number: 1850844  Size: SH
  11. Clamp or mechanically fasten the rear end panel into place.
  12. Install all related panels and components.
  13. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection.
  14. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling.
