The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

Concern 1: Door won't open from inside or outside Handle. This may happen if the door handle linkage is not properly adjusted.

Concern 2: Door lock or unlock is inoperative. This may happen if the door lock actuator is binding or the linkage is bent.

Recommendation/Instructions:

Concern 1

Prior to replacing the door latch assembly, check and make sure the outside door handle Linkage is properly adjusted.

  1. With the door panel removed unsnap the yellow compensating clip from the threaded outside door handle release rod.
  2. Ensure the outside door handle release lever is at full rest position (not pre-loaded).
  3. Re-attach the threaded release rod to the yellow compensating clip and snap shut, being sure not to pre-load the outside door handle linkage.
  4. Verify the operation of the door latch assembly.

Concern 2

  1. Verify tombstone/lock knob on the door is not sticking or binding on the trim panel bezel, preventing free motion of the lock rod
  2. Remove trim panel and verify latch power lock/unlock (ensure latch actuator is firing).
  3. If latch is power lock/unlocking with the trim panel removed, verify that the lock rod is not bent and replace if necessary.
  4. Reassemble the trim panel ensuring that the new lock rod is not bent.
  5. Verify the operation of the door lock actuator.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
