Subject: Water Leak From The Front Sunroof

Models:2008 Buick Enclave
2007-2008 GMC Acadia
2007-2008 Saturn Outlook

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

There is a water leak from the front sunroof glass. The glass may be slightly skewed in the roof opening, resulting in a water leak that overwhelms the sunroof module water trough. Visual identifier would be sunroof glass seal excessively pinched in one corner and not touching the roof on the same side of vehicle but opposite corner. This leak will be on the front or rear edge of the glass.

Recommendation/Instructions:

From the outside of vehicle, use feeler gauges to determine which corner of the seal isn't touching, or use a hose and run water over the glass and from inside vehicle, watch the corners of glass to determine which one is leaking heavily. NOTE: drips are expected. Heavy streams of water are not.

  1. Determine which direction compression is needed on sunroof seal. You'll need to remove material from the opposite side of the flushing screw slot. See Photo above.
  2. Remove flushing screws (4) that attach glass, lift glass out of place.

  3. Object Number: 2010086 Size: SH
  4. Place sunroof glass upside down. Be sure to protect glass from scratches. Place a small strip of masking tape as a guide, 1 mm over from flushing screw adjustment slot (see photo above). The measurement and location of material to remove is signified by the green line between red arrows. The amount of material to remove is 1 mm and could possibly need to be removed from opposite side of the bracket, depending on movement direction needed to correct the concern.
  5. Use a Dremmel type tool to enlarge slot (no more than 1 mm). This will allow the glass better opportunity to self center within the roof opening.
  6. Reinstall glass. Adjust the glass flush to roof panel.
  7. Recheck for water leaks.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
