Fuel Gauge Does Not Go To Empty Or A Slosh Noise When Braking Or Accelerating After An Accident - keywords baffle brake gage gas IPC level loose out sensor

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Some Customers may comment that their fuel gauge does not go to empty and the vehicle runs out of gas, or they may hear a fuel slosh or noise from the fuel tank area when braking or accelerating from a stop. There is a baffle in the fuel tank that may come loose and lay on the bottom of the fuel tank. If this happens, it may prevent the fuel level sensor from traveling to the bottom of the tank. This baffle may become dislodged after the vehicle has been in an accident.

If SI diagnostics leads to replace the fuel level sensor, inspect the fuel tank for a baffle that may have come loose prior to replacing any parts. If the fuel tank baffle is found loose in the bottom of the fuel tank, it will be necessary to replace the fuel tank.

Notice: Check with the customer and see if the vehicle has recently been in an accident. If the vehicle was in an accident, this repair should not be covered under warranty. If the customer claims it has not been in an accident, please make a product report on this concern. Follow bulletin 02-00-89-002G for instructions on providing a product report.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
