Subject: | 2004-2005 Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon The Spare Tire May Be a Different Size Than The Road Tires |
Models: |
The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in the PI.
The "full-size" spare tires are not necessarily the same size as the road tires.
If the spare tire is NOT the identical size as the road tires on the vehicle, do NOT drive at speeds above 62 mph (100 km/h), or for distances longer than 500 miles (804 km) in two-wheel drive, and the vehicle should NOT be used in 4WD.
The Owners Manual does not specify to drive, not more than 62 mph (100 km/h) or 500 miles (804 km) in two-wheel-drive if the spare tire and the road tires are not identical sizes. Nor does it specify to not use spare tires in four-wheel-drive if the spare tire and the road tires are not identical sizes. Further, the owner's manual does not state that using the different size spare tires in four wheel drive, or at speeds above 62 mph (100 km/h) or for longer distances than 500 miles (804 km), will cause damage to the vehicle. The spare tires on this vehicle are intended for temporary use ONLY. The owner's manual information is currently being updated. The "full-size" spare tires may be a different size than the road tires because of width and diameter packaging restrictions (i.e. lack of clearance from the exhaust system, etc.).
Please follow this diagnosis process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
