2004 - 2005 GMC Canyon |
with 3.5L Engine (VIN 6 - RPO L52) |
The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
Some technicians may wonder why the parts catalog has a user note next to Goodwrench® engine part number 89017834 that states - "When used for 2004-2005 applications, the exhaust camshaft position actuator must be changed to 2004 - 2005 content."
They may also wonder why the engine comes with an instruction sheet that states - "This Goodwrench Engine Assembly is for use on 2004 - 2006 In-line 5 Cylinder 3.5L (L52) equipped vehicles. For all 2004 - 2005 applications, the Exhaust Camshaft Position Actuator Assembly must be changed to 2004 - 2005 content. Reference service manual repair instructions for proper replacement procedures."
A 2006 model year 3.5L engine will be received if a 3.5L Goodwrench® engine is ordered for a 2004 - 2005 Canyon or Colorado. The 2006 model year 3.5L engines use a vane style exhaust camshaft position actuator instead of a spline style actuator like the 2004 - 2005 3.5L engines use. The vane style exhaust camshaft position actuator is very different when compared to the original spline style actuator. As a result, the exhaust camshaft position actuator must be changed to 2004 - 2005 content before a 89017834 Goodwrench® engine is installed in a 2004 - 2005 Canyon or Colorado.
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
