Subject: | White Residue on Seatbelt and/or Carpet Near Anchor Bolt Behind Front Seat(s) |
Models: | 2004-2008 Chevrolet Colorado |
2004-2008 GMC Canyon |
The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
Some customers may comment that there is a white residue on the carpet or seatbelt of their Colorado or Canyon (Refer to the illustration above). Typically the stain is noticed at the seatbelt base were the seatbelt is anchored into the floor pan. This may be the result of water working its way between the floor pan and seat belt anchor reinforcement bracket, eventually traveling up through the seatbelt anchor bolt threads.
Apply seam sealer between the reinforcement bracket and floor pan area. Apply the sealer the along the entire length of the bracket to ensure the gap between the floor pan and bracket is filled. Only apply sealer to the gap facing toward the front of the vehicle (Refer to the gap in the illustration above). Use Kent Seam Sealer or any equivalent sealer that will "skin over" this void.
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
