Attention: Proceed with this bulletin ONLY if the customer has commented about this concern AND the EI number is listed in GMVIS. If the customer has not commented about this condition or the EI does not show in GMVIS, disregard the bulletin and proceed with diagnostics found in published Service Information (SI). THIS IS NOT A RECALL- refer to TSB # 04-00-89-053B for more detail in the use of Engineering Information bulletins.


This bulletin is being revised to include the 2008 HUMMER H3, add information under Correction and contact information. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 08-06-03-003 (Section 06 -- Engine/Propulsion System).


Condition

Some customers may comment on the vehicle not starting or cranking.

Cause

GM Engineering is attempting to determine the root cause of concerns for dead batteries. GM has a need to obtain technical information first-hand from the dealer technician during diagnosis and PRIOR to repair. As a result, this information will be used by engineering to help root-cause the customer's concern and develop/validate a field fix.

Correction

Colorado/Canyon Vehicles Equipped with US8 Radio ONLY:

This condition may be caused by a software concern within the US8 Radio's CD player.

Before proceeding with this bulletin, reprogram the customer's US8 radio "Operating System" with the latest calibration in TIS2WEB labeled "New Software to Resolve CD will not Load/Eject."

If updating the software did not correct the customer's concern, complete the remainder of the steps listed in this bulletin.

All Other Vehicles

Before attempting any repairs, contact the appropriate engineers listed below, with the following information:

  1. Is the customer commenting about overnight or long sitting (more than 3 days) no start?
  2. Which of the following presents itself during the No Start event?
  3. • Crank
    • No Crank
    • Clicks
    • No Clicks
    • Starts and Stalls
  4. Can you visually determine if features and accessories (Interior dome lights, IP, Radio) operate?
  5. Are there any DTCs set?
  6. What is the current voltage on the battery? What is the parasitic draw?

If you do not receive a call within 30 minutes of your call, proceed with normal diagnosis per Service Information (SI). GM Engineering may want to visit dealers located near the Milford, Michigan or Shreveport, Louisiana area. If your dealer is located within 200 miles of the Shreveport Louisiana area, contact Tim Currier or Randy Harrington. All other calls should be directed to Jose Trujillo.
