J 44221 Camshaft Holding Tool


    Object Number: 954020  Size: SH
  1. Coat the camshaft journals, camshaft journal thrust face, and camshaft lobes with clean engine oil.
  2. Install the exhaust camshaft.
  3. Install the intake camshaft.

  4. Object Number: 954201  Size: SH
  5. Install J 44221 with the camshaft flats up and the number 1 cylinder at top dead center.

  6. Object Number: 954017  Size: SH

    Important: Install the same camshaft cap onto the same camshaft journal from which it was removed. The camshaft caps are pin stamped for direction and numerical order.

  7. Install the exhaust camshaft caps.
  8. Install the intake camshaft caps.
  9. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  10. Install the camshaft cap bolts. Tighten the bolts evenly in order to compress the valve springs before final torque.
  11. Tighten
    Tighten the camshaft cap bolts to 12 N·m (106 lb in).

  12. Remove J 44221 .
