Removal Procedure

    Caution: Do not strike or jolt the inflatable restraint sensing and diagnostic module (SDM). Before applying power to the SDM, make sure that it is securely fastened with the arrow facing toward the front of the vehicle. Failure to observe the correct installation procedure could cause SIR deployment, personal injury, or unnecessary SIR system repairs.

  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling .
  2. Remove the floor console. Refer to Console Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.
  3. Cut the carpet along the "I" cut pattern over the inflatable restraint sensing and diagnostic module (SDM).
  4. Fold the carpet back to expose the SDM.

  6. Disconnect the electrical connector (2) from the SDM (1).

  7. Object Number: 1276856  Size: SH
  8. Remove the nuts (2) retaining the SDM (1) to the floor studs (3).
  9. Remove the SDM from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

    Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  1. Install the SDM (1) to the floor studs (3) with 3 nuts (2).
  2. Tighten
    Tighten the SDM nuts to 9 N·m (79 lb in).

  3. Connect the electrical connector (2) to the SDM (1).
  4. Fold the carpet back down over the SDM.
  5. Install the floor console. Refer to Console Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.
  6. Important: The AIR BAG indicator may remain ON after the SDM has been replaced. DTC B1001 may set requiring the SDM part number to be set in multiple modules. If the indicator remains ON after enabling the SIR system, perform the diagnostic system check and follow the steps thoroughly to ensure that the SDM is set properly.

  7. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling .
  8. Program the SDM. Refer to Diagnostic System Check - SIR in Computer/Integrating Systems.
