Condition/Concern:
Bulletin 04-06-04-081A refers to the "Valve Stem Oil Seal and Valve Spring Replacement" section of SI for instructions on how to install the updated exhaust valve seals and springs mentioned in the bulletin. Step 5 of this section includes a hyper-link to the "Valve Rocker Arm and Valve Lash Adjuster Replacement" section where Step 1 includes a hyper-link to the "Camshaft Replacement" section. This section includes instructions on how to remove BOTH camshafts without disturbing the timing chain or cam sprockets by using the J 44222 Camshaft Sprocket Holding Tool.

Recommendation/Instructions:
Here are some SI highlights that may help when installing the 04-06-04-081A exhaust valve seals and springs:
| • | The J 44217 and EN-44217-45 hook style chain holding tools will not be used to install the updated exhaust valve seals and springs. Instead, the J 44222 Camshaft Sprocket Holding Tool will be attached to the cylinder head to hold the cam sprockets in place, which will also maintain chain tension as shown in Step 7 of the "Camshaft Replacement" section. Make sure that the two 10 mm bolts that attach the J 44222 to the cylinder head are tight. |
| • | LOCK the flywheel in place as shown in Step 3 of the "Valve Stem Oil Seal and Valve Spring Replacement" section to prevent crankshaft movement when shop air is applied to the cylinders on Step 9 of the "Valve Stem Oil Seal and Valve Spring Replacement" section. |
| • | Remove BOTH camshafts as shown in Step 12 of the "Camshaft Replacement" section so that all of the valves will remain closed when shop air pressure is applied to the cylinders on Step 9 of the "Valve Stem Oil Seal and Valve Spring Replacement" section. |
