The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
Some customers may comment on a noise heard or felt from the floor area. This may be the result of a bumper support contacting the radiator core support.
To isolate this concern, place chassis ears on each of the front bumper support brackets. If the noise is isolated to either one, it will be necessary to remove the bracket. The area of contact is noted in the image below. To remove the bracket, remove the 5 bolts that secure the bracket to the frame and bumper. Once the bracket is removed, inspect for witness marks. Reform the surface where the witness marks were noted on the bracket by using a hammer or similar striking device. Reinstall the bracket, torquing to SI specifications found in document number 1335050 and inspect for clearance. Once adequate clearance is obtained, cover the marks on the bumper bracket and core support with black undercoating to prevent weathering. This type of product can be obtained locally.
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
