Subject:Bose® Radio May Have Poor Fidelity (Reprogram Radio)

Models:2004 Buick Rainier
2004 Chevrolet TrailBlazer, TrailBlazer EXT
2004 GMC Envoy, Envoy XL, Envoy XUV
2004 Oldsmobile Bravada
with RPOs UC6 and UQA

Condition

Some customers may comment on a lack of fidelity from the Bose® radio. This may be described as a lack of bass response or a poor overall sound quality.

Cause

The radio was programmed with an incorrect equalization curve. Vehicles equipped with the UC6 and UQA Bose® radio options require that the radio be programmed with a flat equalization curve.

Correction

Using the TIS 2000 software, reprogram the radio using the Tech 2 Diagnostic Scan Tool. Refer to the TIS 2000 user's guide and the Tech 2 Diagnostic Scan Tool Programming Guide for specific Instructions. Please observe the following exceptions when reprogramming the radio:

Important: If the vehicle is equipped with the optional rear seat DVD player, the fuse must be pulled in order to complete the radio reprogramming.

   •

If the vehicle is equipped with the optional rear seat DVD player, the OH BATT/ONSTAR fuse (#26-XUV only, #27-all others) must be pulled in order to complete the radio reprogramming.

   •

When at the TIS 2000 terminal, the radio reprogramming option may open multiple file folders for additional updates. You must make a decision in each visible file folder. You will see a check appear on the tab of the folder after your selection is made.

   •

When reprogramming the radio in-vehicle, you should select "Program ECU" from the Tech 2 display.

   •

The TIS 2000 software will require the radio part number. Please use P/N 15083394.

Parts Information

The replacement software for the radio is available with TIS 2000 version 12 for 2003 or newer.
