The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in the PI.

Condition/Concern:

When programming a radio equipped with a UQA amplifier, it is important to read the calibration descriptions. Selecting the wrong calibration will result in reduced or no radio volume.

Recommendation/Instructions:

On 2004 models, TIS programming supports two calibrations for a radio with the UQA amplifier in a S/T truck. Prior to selecting the calibration, use the Tech 2, to see if the amplifier can communicate or displayed on the class 2 message monitor. If the amplifier is active or data can be obtained from the module, this would be a class 2 amplifier and the calibration for a class 2 amplifier needs to be selected. If the amplifier has no communication or does not show up in the class 2 message monitor, the non-class 2 amplifier calibration needs to be selected. A final way to help determine the correct calibration is by the vehicles build date. The non-class 2 amp was installed in vehicles sometime between October and November of 2003. Use the date as a guide only.

On 2005 model years, two calibration exist. One "with UQA speakers" and the other is "without UQA speakers". These calibrations are located under the "Equalizer" tab in TIS. When selecting the wrong calibration a complaint of "no sound" from the audio system will be reported. Confirm the RPO codes on the vehicle prior to programming the radio through TIS.

Please follow this diagnosis process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
