  1. Inspect the brake fluid level in the brake master cylinder reservoir.
  2. If the brake fluid is midway between the maximum-full point and the minimum allowable level, no brake fluid needs to be removed from the reservoir before proceeding.

  3. Object Number: 787455 Size: SH
  4. If the brake fluid level is higher than midway between the maximum-full point and the minimum allowable level, remove the brake fluid with appropriate tool to the midway point before proceeding.
  5. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  6. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tire and Wheels.

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 748563 Size: SH

Important: When installing new brake pads, DO NOT reuse the old retaining clips for the brake pad. Use only NEW brake pad retaing clips.

  1. Install the brake pad retaining clips on the brake caliper mounting bracket.

  2. Object Number: 748557 Size: SH
  3. Install the brake pads to the brake caliper mounting bracket.

  4. Object Number: 787920 Size: SH

Important: Ensure that the retaining clip for the brake pads is properly seated in the brake caliper.

  5. Install the retaining clip from the brake caliper.

  6. Object Number: 786535 Size: SH
  7. Rotate the rear brake caliper upward until the brake caliper assembly is in the proper position.

  8. Object Number: 357443 Size: SH

Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  9. Install the upper brake caliper mounting bolt.
  10. Tighten
Tighten the brake caliper bolt to 31 N·m (23 lb ft).

  11. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  12. Lower the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  13. Fill the brake master cylinder reservoir (if needed). Refer to Master Cylinder Reservoir Filling in Hydraulic Brakes.
  14. Caution: Do not move the vehicle until a firm brake pedal is obtained. Failure to obtain a firm pedal before moving vehicle may result in personal injury.

  15. Pump the brake pedal slowly and firmly in order to seat the brake pads.
  16. Burnish the new brake pads. Refer to Brake Pad and Rotor Burnishing .
