Rear Seat Back Cushion Hinge Replacement TrailBlazer EXT, Envoy XL
Removal Procedure
- Remove the seat from the vehicle. Refer to
Rear Seat Replacement
.
- Remove the inboard/outboard rear seat back cushion latch covers. Refer
to
Rear Seat Back Cushion Hinge Cover Replacement
.
- Remove the rear center seat belt anchor
nut (2), if replacing the left-hand seat inboard hinge.
- Remove the seat belt side buckle nut (2),
if replacing the right-hand seat inboard hinge.
- Remove the seat back cover and pad high enough to expose the seat back
mounting bolts. Refer to
Rear Seat Back Cushion Cover and Pad Replacement
.
- Remove the seat back mounting bolts (2)
securing the rear seat back frame to the inboard/outboard rear seat back hinge
assembly.
- Remove the seat cushion mounting bolts (1) securing the rear seat cushion
frame to the inboard/outboard rear seat back hinge assembly.
- Remove the seat back assembly.
Installation Procedure
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.
- Install the seat cushion mounting bolts (1) securing the rear seat cushion
frame to the inboard/outboard rear seat back hinge assembly.
Tighten
Tighten all rear seat cushion mounting bolts to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).
- Install the seat back mounting bolts (2) securing the rear seat back
frame to the inboard/outboard rear seat back hinge assembly.
Tighten
Tighten all rear seat back mounting bolts to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).
- Install the seat belt side buckle (1)
to the seat with the seat belt anchor nut (2), if replacing the right-hand
seat inboard hinge.
Tighten
Tighten the seat belt side buckle nut to 55 N·m (40 lb ft).
- Install the rear center seat belt anchor
nut (2), if replacing the left-hand seat inboard hinge.
Tighten
Tighten all rear center seat belt anchor nut to 60 N·m (44 lb ft).
- Install the seat back cover and pad to the seat back. Refer to
Rear Seat Back Cushion Cover and Pad Replacement
.
- Install the inboard/outboard rear seat back cushion latch covers. Refer
to
Rear Seat Back Cushion Hinge Cover Replacement
.
- Install the seat in the vehicle. Refer to
Rear Seat Replacement
.

Removal Procedure
- Partially remove the seat back cover and pad. Refer to
Rear Seat Back Cushion Cover and Pad Replacement
.
- Remove the latch release cables (1) from the latch release mechanism, located
at the bottom of the seat back frame.
- Remove the head restraint release cable (2) from the left hand
hinge bracket.
- Remove the bolts (2) that retain the latch
bracket to the hinge bracket.
- Remove the bolts (1) that retain the hinge bracket to the seat back
frame.
- Remove the hinge bracket from the seat back frame.
Installation Procedure
- Position the hinge bracket to the seat back frame.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the hinge bracket to the seat back frame with 2 bolts (1).
Tighten
Tighten the seat back hinge bolts to 35 N·m (26 lb ft).
- Install the latch bracket to the hinge bracket with 2 bolts (2).
Tighten
Tighten the seat back hinge bolts to 35 N·m (26 lb ft).
- Install the latch release cables (1) to the latch release mechanism, located
at the bottom of the seat back frame.
- Install the head restraint release cable (2) the left hand hinge
bracket.
- Install the seat back cover and pad. Refer to
Rear Seat Back Cushion Cover and Pad Replacement
