Tools Required

    • J 39032 Stationary Glass Removal Tool
    • Urethane Adhesive Kit GM P/N 12346392 or Equivalent
    • Isopropyl Alcohol or Equivalent
    • Cartridge-type Caulking Gun
    • Commercial-type Utility Knife
    • Razor Blade Scraper
    • Suction Cups
    • Plastic Paddle

Removal Procedure

    Caution: If a window is cracked but still intact, crisscross the window with masking tape in order to reduce the risk of damage or personal injury.

    Important: Before cutting out a stationary window, apply a double layer of masking tape around the perimeter of the painted surfaces and the interior trim.

  1. Open the liftgate.
  2. Remove the upper quarter trim. Refer to Rear Quarter Upper Trim Panel Replacement in Interior Trim.
  3. Notice: In order to avoid damaging the antenna lead connector, follow these guidelines:

       • Use a plastic tool and carefully pry the connector from the window.
       • Do NOT pull on the connector, which may be stuck to the urethane adhesive or the headliner.

  4. Disconnect the antenna lead located on the rear quarter window, if equipped. Refer to Radio Control Module Replacement or Radio Antenna Module Replacement in Entertainment.

  5. Object Number: 315335  Size: SH

    Caution: When working with any type of glass or sheet metal with exposed or rough edges, wear approved safety glasses and gloves in order to reduce the chance of personal injury.

    Important: Keep the cutting edge of the tool against the window. Do this from inside the vehicle.

  6. This will allow the urethane adhesive to be separated from the window.
  7. • Leave a base of urethane on the pinchweld flange.
    • The only suitable lubrication is clear water.
    • UseJ 39032 or equivalent in order to remove the window.
  8. If the original reveal molding on the quarter window is damaged it must be replaced.

  10. With the aid of an assistant, remove the quarter window from the opening.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install a stationary window into the opening. Refer to Adhesive Installation of Encapsulated Stationary Windows .

  2. Object Number: 696087  Size: SH
  3. Connect the antenna lead located on the rear quarter window, if equipped. Refer to Radio Control Module Replacement or Radio Antenna Module Replacement in Entertainment.
  4. Install the upper quarter trim. Refer to Rear Quarter Upper Trim Panel Replacement in Interior Trim.
  5. Remove the double layer of masking tape around the perimeter of the painted surfaces and the interior trim.
  6. Inspect the radio or the OnStar® system, if equipped, to verify reception.
  7. Close the liftgate window.
