Removal Procedure
Caution: This vehicle is equipped with a Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) System. Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause the following conditions:
• | Unnecessary SIR system repairs |
In order to avoid the above conditions, observe the following guidelines:
• | Refer to SIR Component Views in order to determine if you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring. |
• | If you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System. |
- Disable the inflatable restraint
steering wheel module. Refer to
Disabling the SIR System
in SIR.
- Remove the upper and lower trim covers. Refer to
Steering Column Trim Covers Replacement
in Steering Wheel and
Column.
- Remove the lock cylinder. Refer to
Ignition Lock Cylinder Replacement
in Steering Wheel and Column.
- Disconnect the connector from the theft deterrent control module.
- If necessary, disconnect the connector from the ignition lock
cylinder case (1).
- Remove the theft deterrent control module (2) from ignition
lock cylinder case assembly (1).
Installation Procedure
- Install the theft deterrent
control module (2) onto the ignition lock cylinder case assembly (1).
Caution: Improper routing of the wire harness assembly may damage the inflatable
restraint steering wheel module coil. This may result in a malfunction of
the coil, which may cause personal injury.
- Connect the connector to the theft deterrent control module.
- If necessary, connect the connector to the ignition lock cylinder
case.
- Install the lock cylinder. Refer to
Ignition Lock Cylinder Replacement
in Steering Wheel and Column.
- Install the upper and lower trim covers. Refer to
Steering Column Trim Covers Replacement
in Steering Wheel and
Column.
- Enable the inflatable restraint steering wheel module. Refer to
Enabling the SIR System
in SIR.
- Program the Theft Deterrent Control Module. Refer to
Programming Theft Deterrent System Components
.
