For 1990-2009 cars only
- Remove the fuel pump relay (1) from the junction box (2).
- Crank the engine.
- Allow the engine to start and stall.
- Crank the engine for an additional 3 seconds to ensure the relief of any remaining fuel pressure.
- Disconnect the negative battery cable in order to avoid re-pressurizing the fuel system. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
- Install the fuel pump relay (1) to the junction box (2).
- Tighten the fuel filler cap.
Caution: Remove the fuel tank cap and relieve the fuel system pressure before servicing the fuel system in order to reduce the risk of personal injury. After you relieve the fuel system pressure, a small amount of fuel may be released when servicing the fuel lines, the fuel injection pump, or the connections. In order to reduce the risk of personal injury, cover the fuel system components with a shop towel before disconnection. This will catch any fuel that may leak out. Place the towel in an approved container when the disconnection is complete.
Notice: Do not perform this test for more than 2 minutes in order to prevent damaging the catalytic converter.
