When servicing the vehicle with the VIN you entered, the following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the described symptoms.
2004 P/N 89017414 starters on back order.
Condition is a "click, no crank" when attempting to start the vehicle usually after a cold soak, typically below 10 degrees F. Moisture captured within the starter solenoid during manufacturing may freeze on the internal surface of the main battery contact. As the ignition key is turned to start and the solenoid engages, the battery terminal is insulated from making electrical contact due to the ice formation. If the key is repeatedly turned, it will eventually break through the ice and the starter motor will energize. Additionally, as the vehicle runs at normal operating engine temperatures for extended periods, the moisture inside the solenoid may dissipate and the starter concern may be remedied.
The vehicle will typically be ....
Recently delivered to customer.
Low mileage (0 - 1500 approx.), and/or short trips.
All other electrical functions (headlights, dash lights, radio , etc.) are normal, which indicate the battery has sufficient charge.
A 2002/03 P/N 10465582 starter may be used in a situation where the customer demands his/her vehicle repaired immediately and cannot wait for stock replenishment. To obtain this part, you may have to "SPRINT" it (obtained from another dealer). The orientation of the electrical connection is slightly different (off set) but can be made. Be sure to place the wires in the anti-turn slots to prevent the B+ and S wires from contacting each other.
