Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  2. Object Number: 217759  Size: SH
  3. Disconnect automatic level control air lines from shock absorber, if equipped.
  4. Remove the shock absorber to frame bracket bolts.
  5. Remove the shock absorber to anchor plate nut and washer.
  6. Remove the shock absorber from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the shock absorber to the lower anchor plate. Do not attach the washer or the nut.
  2. Install the shock absorber to the frame bracket with the nuts and the bolts.
  3. Install the lower anchor plate washer and the nut.
  4. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Tighten the nuts and the bolts with the front suspension loaded.
  6. Tighten

        • Tighten the shock abosorber upper bolts to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).
        • Tighten the lower anchor plate nut to 84 N·m (62 lb ft) on pickups and 2 door utility models and to 100 N·m (74 lb ft) on 4 door utility models.
  7. Connect automatic level control air line to shock aborber, if equipped.
  8. Lower the vehicle.
