1

Did you perform the Wiper/Washer System Diagnostic System Check?

Go to Step 2

Go to Diagnostic System Check - Wiper/Washer

2

Verify the fault is present.

Does the system operate normally?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 3

3

While the windshield wiper/washer system is in the automatic mode does the wiper motor operate at continuous delay intervals?

Go to Step 5

Go to Step 4

4

  1. Turn the ignition ON.
  2. Operate the windshield wiper/washer switch from the OFF position through all of the delay positions.

Does the wiper motor cycle once and stop every time the switch is advanced to the next delay position?

Go to Step 5

Go to Wipers Inoperative - One or More Modes

5

  1. Disconnect the windshield wipers motor connector.
  2. Ensure the outside surface of the windshield in the area of the moisture sensor is clean and dry.
  3. Using a DMM, measure the voltage of the moisture sensor signal circuit in the wiper motor harness connector.

Does the signal circuit voltage level stabilize at approximately 5 volts?

Go to Step 6

Go to Step 7

6

While measuring the voltage of the moisture sensor signal circuit, spray water on the outside surface of the windshield in the area of the moisture sensor.

Does the signal circuit voltage level fluctuate?

Go to Step 13

Go to Step 9

7

  1. Disconnect the moisture sensor connector.
  2. Connect a test lamp from the accessory voltage supply circuit terminal in the harness connector to a good ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 8

Go to Step 10

8

Connect a test lamp from the accessory voltage supply circuit terminal to the ground circuit terminal in the moisture sensor harness connector.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 9

Go to Step 11

9

Test the moisture sensor signal 1 circuit for an open, short to ground, or short to voltage. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 16

Go to Step 12

10

Repair the accessory voltage supply circuit to the moisture sensor for an open or short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Is the repair complete?

Go to Step 16

--

11

Repair the moisture sensor ground circuit for an open or high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Is the repair complete?

Go to Step 16

--

12

Inspect for poor connections at the moisture sensor. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 16

Go to Step 14

13

Inspect for poor connections at the windshield wiper motor cover. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 16

Go to Step 15

14

Replace the moisture sensor. Refer to Windshield Outside Moisture Sensor Replacement .

Did you complete the replacement?

Go to Step 16

--

15

Replace the windshield wiper motor cover. Refer to Windshield Wiper Motor Cover Replacement .

Did you complete the replacement?

Go to Step 16

--

16

Operate the system in order to verify the repair.

Did you correct the condition?

System OK
