Transfer Case Fluid Replacement TrailBlazer, Envoy, Rainier, Bravada
Removal Procedure
- Raise the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
.
- Remove the fuel tank shield, if equipped. Refer to
Fuel Tank Shield Replacement
.
- Remove the fill plug.
- Remove the drain plug.
Installation Procedure
- Apply pipe sealant GM P/N 12346004 (Canadian P/N 10953480) or equivalent to the drain plug threads.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the drain plug.
Tighten
Tighten the plug to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).
- Fill the transfer case with the proper fluid. Refer to
Approximate Fluid Capacities
.
- Apply pipe sealant GM P/N 12346004 (Canadian P/N 10953480) or equivalent to the fill plug threads.
- Install the fill plug.
Tighten
Tighten the plug to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).
- Install the fuel tank shield, if equipped. Refer to

- Lower the vehicle. Refer to
