Subject:4.2L LL8 Exhaust Camshaft Position Actuator Replacement Possible P0340, P0341

Models:.

When servicing the vehicle with the VIN you entered, the following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the described symptoms.

Condition/Concern:

Supplemental installation instructions for the Exhaust Camshaft Position Actuator. Also possible P0340 and/or P0341 after installing the Exhaust Camshaft Position Actuator

Recommendation/Instructions:

SI Document number 815450 Exhaust Camshaft Position Actuator Replacement instructs the reader to rotate the camshaft actuator clockwise until it stops in step 4 of the installation procedure.

Use the 25 mm (1 inch) hex surface that is cased on the camshaft between the lobes to rotate the camshaft actuator clockwise. Do not use channel locks to grab the cam phaser actuator reluctor surface as this may damage the reluctor surface enough to set DTCs P0340 and/or P0341.

Do not force the camshaft position actuator to rotate. The actuator comes out of the box already rotated to the correct position but may move when being handled. Movement of the actuator is approximately 1/2 inch.

Please follow this diagnosis process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed. If these steps do not resolve the condition, please contact GM TAC for further diagnostic assistance. This diagnostic approach was developed for the vehicle with the VIN you entered and should not be automatically be used for other vehicles with similar symptoms.
