Subject:4.2L LL8 Does Not Use Oil Level Sensor - 4.2 cylinder engine GMT360 mechanical pan replacement

Models:.

When servicing the vehicle with the VIN you entered, the following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the described symptoms.

Condition/Concern:

Some early built 2003 Bravadas, Trail Blazers, and Envoys with the 4.2 may have been built with an oil level sensor in the oil pan and a harness attached. Some may have a harness without a sensor, some may have a sensor in the pan without the harness, some may have both, or some may have neither. Regardless of what components they have, the system is not functional. It was turned off through the use of software during production.

Recommendation/Instructions:

If a replacement engine is ordered, it will not have provisions for a oil level sensor in the oil pan.

If the original engine has a oil sensor connector, seal the connector with a sealant such as GMS P/N 12346141 or RTV P/N 12378521 and tie strap it to a secure location.

Reference PI00234 for other changes from 02 to 03 MY for this engine.

Please follow this diagnosis process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed. If these steps do not resolve the condition, please contact GM TAC for further diagnostic assistance.
