When servicing the vehicle with the VIN you entered, the following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the described symptoms.

Condition/Concern:

Vehicle may exhibit one or both of the following noise concerns from the front end. Noise may be related to driving the vehicle over bumps or under light acceleration:

  1. Buzz or rattle noise from front of vehicle under the hood area.
  2. Buzz or rattle noise that may be RPM related under hood area.

Recommendation/Instructions:

Inspect the following areas:

  1. Check the hood prop rod for being loose or contacting the fan shroud. If there are witness marks showing prop rod to fan shroud contact, reshape the rod to obtain needed clearance.
  2. Inspect the connector to the cooling fan. This noise may be noticed around 2500-3500 RPM. It has been noted that the CPA assurance clip is missing from the connector and it could induce a rattle or buzz noise at the specified RPM range. Install a CPA clip if needed. The CPA assurance clip has been eliminated from the plant.

Please follow this diagnosis process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed. If these steps do not resolve the condition, please contact GM TAC for further diagnostic assistance. This diagnostic approach was developed for the vehicle with the VIN you entered and should not be automatically be used for other vehicles with similar symptoms.
