Explain the source of the reflection and instruct customer on proper operation of high beams.

DO NOT replace headlamp assemblies.

Headlamp Reflection

When driving in dense fog, or in extremely dusty conditions, a vertical ray of light is visible when the high beams are on. The reflection is caused by the surrounding chrome trim located within the headlamp assembly. DO NOT REPLACE THE ASSEMBLY FOR THIS CONDITION AS A REPLACEMENT ASSEMBLY WILL EXHIBIT THE SAME CHARACTERISTICS.

Proper Operation of High Beams

This reflection can be avoided by adhering to these general guidelines for proper operation of vehicle lighting systems.

Fog and/or dust is a physical obstruction of vision that acts as a reflective surface for your vehicle's lighting systems at night. The effectiveness of high beam headlamps may be greatly diminished under these conditions. For most instances of dense fog and dust conditions, low beam headlamps are preferable due to the steeper angle of the beam (closer to vehicle) resulting in less light reflected back into the driver's vision. If your vehicle is equipped with fog lamps, switch them on when driving in fog or dust to add useful additional illumination with the lowest resultant glare.
