What Action to Take

GM Engineering is attempting to determine the root cause of the above condition. GM Engineering has a need to obtain information first hand during diagnosis and BEFORE repair. As a result, this information will be used by engineering to "root cause" the customer's concern and develop/validate a field fix.

If a vehicle is encountered with the above concern, please do the following steps:

  1. Record the VIN.
  2. Record the vehicle build date.
  3. Record the mileage at the time of service.
  4. Record the vehicle paint code and color.
  5. Photograph the paint concern.
  6. E-mail the pictures to Gary Schafer at gary.schafer@gm.com.
  7. Contact Gary Schafer at the GM Supplier Quality -- Statistical Engineering prior to performing any paint repair to the front/rear fascia.

Engineer Contact Information

Contact Gary Schafer at 586-899-2453 and e-mail pictures at gary.schafer@gm.com before repairing the vehicle. GM Engineering may visit dealerships that are near Detroit, Michigan. Once you call Gary Schafer, you will receive a response back within 2 hours on what action to take the same day of your call (Eastern Daylight Time).

If you do not receive a response within two hours of calling, then proceed to repair the vehicle.

Parts Information

If necessary, GM may make arrangements to have the old fascia shipped to the Warranty Parts Center (WPC) based upon the information provided.

Important: Do NOT ship any parts to the WPC without a WPC request having been issued. WPC requests will be sent for any parts that engineering wants to have returned.
