THE 700-R4 TRANSMISSION PROCEDURE FOR REPLACING THE THIRD ACCUMULATOR CHECK VALVE HAS BEEN CHANGED AND THE INFORMATION SHOWN IN THE 1982 SERVICE MANUALS IS INCORRECT. IN THE EVENT IT BECOMES NECESSARY TO CHANGE THE THIRD ACCUMULATOR CHECK VALVE, USE THE FOLLOWING PROCEDURE: (1) USE A 6.3MM (#4) EASY OUT TO REMOVE THE CHECK VALVE ASSEMBLY FROM THE CASE. (2) INSTALL A NEW CHECK VALVE ASSEMBLY, SMALL END FIRST, INTO THE CASE. POSITION THE CHECK VALVE SLEEVE SO ONE OF THE HOLES WILL ALIGN WITH THE SERVO OIL PASSAGE. SEE FIGURE 700-R4-16. (3) SCRIBE A MARK AT 42.0MM ON A 9.5MM (3/8") DIAMETER METAL ROD AND USE IT TO SEAT THE CHECK VALVE ASSEMBLY. DRIVE THE CHECK VALVE ASSEMBLY INTO THE CASE UNTIL THE SCRIBE MARK IS FLUSH WITH THE CASE. SEE FIGURE 700-R4-17. **
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
