A recent 700-R4 transmission change eliminated the need for the accumulator plate and gasket. Beginning in July, 1982, these parts were removed.
For service, any transmissions built without these parts will not require their addition. However, those transmissions built prior to the change which have an accumulator plate and gasket will continue to require these parts during service.
This change modified the 1-2 accumulator cover and pin assembly and the spacer plate gaskets as follows:
1. The bolt boss of the 1-2 accumulator cover and pin assembly was lengthened to allow use of the current bolt after removal of the accumulator plate.
2. The accumulator hole in the spacer plate gaskets was enlarged to allow clearance for the accumulator piston spring.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
