MODELS: 1982 CK 25-35 SERIES TRUCKS WITH RPO LL4 (HEAVY DUTY 6.2L DIESEL ENGINE) AND RPO MX1 (THM 400 TRANSMISSION)

General Motors has determined that some early production 1982 CK 25-35 Series Trucks with RPO LL4 (Heavy Duty 6.2L Diesel Engine) and MX1 (THM 400 Transmission) may experience a transmission clutch which is slow to engage, a condition which may not be detectable to the vehicle operator.

To prevent the possibility of this condition occurring, it will be necessary to adjust the engine vacuum regulator setting and install a new vacuum modulator on the transmission assembly according to the instructions contained in this bulletin. If this condition is not corrected, premature transmission clutch wear may occur.

ADMINISTRATIVE PROCEDURE

Procedures covering this campaign are outlined in Section V of your dealership's "GMC Truck Claims Processing Manual" issued October, 1981.

Dear GMC Truck Owner:

General Motors has determined that some early production 1982 CK 25-35 Series Trucks with RPO LL4 (Heavy Duty 6.2L Diesel Engine) and RPO MX1 (THM 400 Transmission) may experience a transmission clutch which is slow to engage, a condition which may not be detectable to the vehicle operator.

To prevent the possibility of this condition occurring on your vehicle, it will be necessary to adjust the engine vacuum regulator setting and install a new vacuum modulator on the transmission assembly. If this condition is not corrected, premature transmission clutch wear may occur.

Instructions have been sent to your GMC Truck Dealer. Please contact your dealer to arrange a service date to have the engine vacuum regulator setting adjusted and the transmission vacuum modulator inspected, and if required, replaced. The labor time to perform the modification is approximately thirty (30) minutes. The modification will be performed at no charge to you.

The enclosed owner reply card identifies your vehicle. Presentation of this card to your dealer will assist him in making the necessary correction to your vehicle in the shortest possible time. If you have sold or traded your vehicle, please let us know by completing the postage paid owner reply card and returning it to us.

We are sorry to cause you this inconvenience; however, we have taken this action in the interest of your continued satisfaction with our products.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
