GMC Truck has determined that some 1982 C,K,P-25,35 series light duty trucks equipped with 5.7 liter V-8 engines (RPO LT9) were assembled with carburetor choke shields which may interfere with the engine air cleaner. This interference prevents the air cleaner from properly seating on top of the carburetor. The resulting gap between the air cleaner and carburetor may allow dust and dirt to enter the engine from unfiltered air. Left uncorrected, this could reduce useful engine life.
To prevent the possibility of this condition occurring it will be necessary to install a new carburetor choke shield.

ADMINISTRATIVE PROCEDURE
Procedures covering this campaign are outlined in Section V of your dealership's "GMC Truck Claims Processing Manual" issued October, 1981.
Dear GMC Truck Owner:
GMC Truck has determined that some 1982 C, K, P-25,35 series light duty trucks equipped with 5.7 liter V-8 engines (RPO LT9) were assembled with carburetor choke shields which may interfere with the engine air cleaner. This interference prevents the air cleaner from properly seating on top of the carburetor. The resulting gap between the air cleaner and carburetor may allow dust and dirt to enter the engine from unfiltered air. Left uncorrected, this could reduce useful engine life.
To correct this condition on your truck, please contact your GMC Truck dealer on or after the date shown below to arrange a service date. Your dealer will install a new carburetor choke shield. The labor time to install the new shield is approximately 15 minutes. Please allow additional time for the dealer to process your vehicle.
Instructions have been sent to your dealer. Parts will be available approximately October 26, 1982. The service will be performed at no charge to you.
The enclosed owner reply card identifies your vehicle. Presentation of this card to your dealer will assist them in making the necessary correction to your vehicle in the shortest possible time. If you have sold or traded your vehicle, please let us know by completing the postage paid owner reply card and returning it to us.
We are sorry to cause you this inconvenience; however, we have taken this action in the interest of your continued satisfaction with our products.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
