Some 1988-1991 C/K trucks outside door handles may rattle when the door is closed. The rattle is from an interference between the door handle spring and the handie inner panel. Also, some 1988-1991 C/K trucks may experience door lock cylinder freeze up in cold, moist conditions. Water from rain or car washes enters the lock cylinder through a hole in the outside door handle housing where the cylinder retaining panel snaps into the housing. This water can freeze in cold weather, thus rendering the lock cylinder inoperative.
To correct these conditions, it is necessary to replace the outside door handle assembly with a redesigned handle assembly (P/N 15686155 LH or 15686156 RH). To stop the door handle spring from moving, a rib was added to the bezel (figure 1) and a piece of foam tape was placed over the hole to prevent water from entering the lock cylinder (figure 1).

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
