Some 1988 C/K Trucks equipped with the 6.2L (VIN Code C) engine may experience a condition where it idles well, but has a no power and black smoke condition at wide open throttle. Additionally, the vehicle may not go over 40 mph.
If this condition is encountered it may be caused by the male terminals of the T.P.S. switch connector on side of injection pump being partially collapsed causing poor contact with the female half of the connector The E.C.M. then loses the T.P.S. signal, causing the engine to go to full E.G.R. The E.C.M. may set a code 21. To correct the condition, repair the connector terminals using procedures on page 6E2-44 of the 1988 Light Duty Manual to provide adequate contact.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
