CAMPAIGN: FRONT BRAKE HOSE MAY CONTACT WHEEL/TIRE

FRONT BRAKE HOSE MAY CONTACT WHEEL/TIRE

Models: 1988 Model Trucks C 10-20

TO: ALL GENERAL MOTORS DEALERS

General Motors of Canada has determined that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in some 1988 Light Duty Model Trucks. The Right Hand front brake hose on a full left turn and the Left Hand front brake hose on a full right turn may contact the wheel or tire. This intermittent contact could eventually wear the hose to the point that a rupture would occur, resulting in a loss of front brakes. These vehicles are equipped with a dual braking system; part of the system will still work and allow the vehicle to be stopped, but over a greater distance. Loss of front braking at a time when minimum stopping distance is required could result in a vehicle crash without prior warning.

To prevent this condition from occurring, it will be necessary to install new repositioning brackets for the front brake hoses on all involved vehicles. The front brake hoses will also be inspected for wear and replaced as required.

VEHICLES INVOLVED:

Involved are certain 1988 Trucks built within the following VIN breakpoints:
