EARLY CLUTCH WEAR-OUT AND/OR CLUTCH CHATTER/SHUDDER

SUBJECT: EARLY CLUTCH WEAR-OUT AND/OR CLUTCH CHATTER/SHUDDER ON LAUNCH (INSTALL CLUTCH KIT)

MODELS: 1992-95 CHEVROLET AND GMC C/K AND P3 MODELS WITH 6.5L DIESEL ENGINE (VINS F, P - RPOS L65, L49) AND MANUAL TRANSMISSION

CONDITION:

EARLY WEAR-OUT OF THE CLUTCH. THE VEHICLE MAY ALSO HAVE CLUTCH CHATTER OR SHUDDER WHEN LAUNCHING FROM A STOP.

CORRECTION:

THE FOLLOWING COMPONENTS SHOULD BE INSTALLED: - CLUTCH KIT WITH MORE WEAR RESISTANT FACING MATERIAL AND REVISED TUNING (DISC AND PRESSURE PLATE ASSEMBLY) - RELEASE BEARING WITH A STEEL SLEEVE - RELEASE FORK WITH CORRECTED FORK TIP RADIUS - NEW PILOT BEARING

IF THE FLYWHEEL SHOWS SIGNS OF EXCESSIVE WEAR, A SECONDARY FLYWHEEL REPLACEMENT KIT IS AVAILABLE THROUGH GMSPO AS P/N 15958496. THIS SECONDARY FLYWHEEL KIT SHOULD BE USED RATHER THAN REPLACING THE COMPLETE DUAL MASS FLYWHEEL (DMF) ASSEMBLY.

SERVICE PROCEDURE:

FOLLOW THE APPROPRIATE SERVICE MANUAL PROCEDURE, SECTION 7C, CLUTCH, FOR CLUTCH ASSEMBLY REPLACEMENT. SECTION 6A6, 6.5L DIESEL CONTAINS INSTRUCTIONS FOR SECONDARY FLYWHEEL REPLACEMENT.

NOTICE: ALIGN THE LIGHT SIDE OF THE PRESSURE PLATE ASSEMBLY, IDENTIFIED BY A PAINT DOT NEAR A BOLT HOLE, WITH THE HEAVY SIDE OF THE FLYWHEEL, IDENTIFIED BY AN "X". TIGHTEN EACH PRESSURE PLATE BOLT ONE TURN AT A TIME TO EVENLY COMPRESS THE SPRING AND AVOID WARPING THE PRESSURE PLATE ASSEMBLY.

TORQUE THE PRESSURE PLATE BOLTS TO 34 N.M (25 LB.FT.) FOLLOWING THE SERVICE MANUAL PROCEDURE.
