Removal Procedure

    Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Relieve the fuel system pressure. Refer to Fuel Pressure Relief .
  3. Remove the upper intake manifold. Refer to Intake Manifold Replacement in Engine Mechanical.
  4. Disconnect the vacuum line to the regulator.
  5. Remove the snap ring (1) from the pressure regulator housing.
  6. Place a towel under the regulator in order to catch any fuel.
  7. Remove the fuel pressure regulator (2) from the fuel rail socket. Twist back and forth while pulling from the socket.
  8. Remove the pressure regulator small O-ring (6), filter (5), large O-ring (4), and the O-ring backup (3).
  9. Discard the O-rings.

Installation Procedure

  1. Lubricate the new pressure regulator O-rings (4) and (6) with clean engine oil.
  2. Install the O-ring backup (3), the large O-ring (4), the filter (5), and the small O-ring (6) on the regulator.
  3. Install the pressure regulator into the fuel rail housing.
  4. Install the snap ring retainer (1) into the slot on the fuel regulator housing.
  5. Important: Verify that the retainer is engaged in the slot in the pressure regulator housing.

  6. Grasp and pull on the regulator (2) in order to ensure that it is properly seated.
  7. Connect the negative battery cable.
  8. Inspect for fuel leaks.
  9. 7.1. Turn the ignition switch ON for 2 seconds.
    7.2. Turn the ignition switch OFF for 10 seconds.
    7.3. Turn the ignition switch ON.
    7.4. Inspect for fuel leaks.
  10. Connect the vacuum line to the regulator.
  11. Install the upper intake manifold. Refer to Intake Manifold Replacement in Engine Mechanical.
