Removal Procedure

Tools Required

J 36608 Fuel Sender Tool

  1. Remove the fuel tank filler cap.
  2. Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  3. Disconnect the negative battery cables.
  4. Raise the vehicle on a hoist.
  5. Remove the fuel tank. Refer to Fuel Tank Replacement .

  6. Object Number: 17406  Size: SH
  7. Remove the sender unit by turning the cam lock counterclockwise using the J 36608 fuel sender tool.

  8. Object Number: 17407  Size: SH

    Important: Do not damage the rubber insulator or the strainer.

  9. Remove the sending unit by pulling up.
  10. Inspect the attaching hose for signs of deterioration.
  11. Inspect the strainer.

Installation Procedure

  1. Insert a new O-ring seal.
  2. Notice: Do not fold or twist the strainer when installing the sending unit. This action restricts fuel flow.

  3. Install the sending unit assembly into the fuel tank.

  4. Object Number: 263632  Size: SH
  5. Install the hoses onto the sender assembly.

  6. Object Number: 17406  Size: SH
  7. Install the cam lock assembly.
  8. Turn the cam lock clockwise in order to lock it.
  9. Install the fuel tank. Refer to Fuel Tank Replacement .
  10. Connect the negative battery cable.
  11. Check the system for leaks.
  12. 8.1. Turn ON the ignition switch for 2 seconds. The scan tool can be used to activate the fuel pump to check for fuel system leaks.
    8.2. Turn OFF the ignition switch for 10 seconds.
    8.3. Again, turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
    8.4. Check for fuel leaks.
