Removal Procedure
- Disconnect both the battery
negative cables from the batteries. Refer to
Battery Replacement
in Engine Electrical.
- Remove the transfer case from the vehicle (if equipped).

- Remove the transmission from the vehicle.

- Remove the clutch assembly from the crankshaft if equipped. Refer
to
Clutch Assembly Replacement
in Clutch.
- Remove the flywheel from the crankshaft.
Installation Procedure
Important: Do not resurface the flywheel, replace the flywheel if damaged due to
over heating or excessive wear.
- Install the flywheel to
the crankshaft
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the flywheel
mounting bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 90 N·m (65 lb ft).
- Install the clutch assembly if equipped. Refer to
Clutch Assembly Replacement
in Clutch.
- Install the transmission in the vehicle.

- Install the transfer case in the vehicle (if equipped).
