Removal Procedure

Notice: Do not run the engine without the oil pump drive in place. This will cause extensive engine damage.

  1. Remove the engine cover from the upper intake manifold.
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cables from the batteries. Refer to Battery Replacement in Engine Electrical.

  3. Object Number: 59759  Size: SH
  4. Remove the fuel filter from the lower intake manifold and position to the side secure out of the way.

  5. Object Number: 64989  Size: SH
  6. Tie the engine wiring harness extension harness assembly out of the way.

  7. Object Number: 358441  Size: SH
  8. Remove the retaining clamp and bolt from the oil pump drive gear.

  9. Object Number: 523989  Size: SH
  10. Remove the oil pump drive gear from the engine block.

  11. Object Number: 523946  Size: SH
  12. Remove the oil pump drive gear gasket from the engine block.

Installation Procedure

Important: When replacing the oil pump drive gear, always use a new gasket.

  1. Clean the sealing surface of the engine block.
  2. Install the gasket on the engine block.

  3. Object Number: 523989  Size: SH

    Important: Clean the bore and apply a small amount of clean engine oil before installing the oil pump drive gear. Do not force the oil pump drive gear into place. The oil pump drive gear should slide into place with slight resistance.

  4. Install the oil pump drive gear into the engine block.
  5. • Index the drive with the camshaft gear.
    • Make sure the oil pump drive gear is fully seated before installing the retaining clamp and bolt.

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  6. Install the retaining clamp and bolt to the engine block.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 42 N·m (31 lb ft).

  8. Untie the engine wiring harness extension harness assembly and reposition.

  10. Install the fuel filter to the lower intake manifold.

  11. Object Number: 358421  Size: SH
  12. Install the upper intake manifold cover to the engine.
  13. Connect the battery negative cables to the batteries. Refer to Battery Replacement in Engine Electrical.
