  1. Inspect the distributor cap for the following conditions:
  2. • Cracking
    • Puncture
    • Wear
    • Damage
    • Replace the distributor cap if any of the above conditions exist.
  3. Inspect the metal terminals in the distributor cap for corrosion.
  4. Use a knife in order to scrape the metal terminals clean or replace the distributor cap.

  5. Inspect the rotor for wear or burning at the outer terminal. Carbon on the terminal indicates rotor wear.
  6. Replace the rotor if the rotor is worn.

  7. Insert the distributor shaft into the housing.
  8. Inspect the shaft for wobbling. Wobbling indicates shaft-to-bearing looseness.
  9. Replace the housing and/or the shaft if looseness exists.

  10. Inspect the housing for cracks or damage.
  11. Measure the resistance of the ignition coil. Refer to Ignition Coil Not Operating Properly .
