- Inspect the distributor cap for the following conditions:
• | Replace the distributor cap if any of the above conditions exist. |
- Inspect the metal terminals in the distributor cap for corrosion.
Use a knife in order to scrape the metal terminals clean or replace
the distributor cap.
- Inspect the rotor for wear or burning at the outer terminal. Carbon
on the terminal indicates rotor wear.
Replace the rotor if the rotor is worn.
- Insert the distributor shaft into the housing.
- Inspect the shaft for wobbling. Wobbling indicates shaft-to-bearing
looseness.
Replace the housing and/or the shaft if looseness exists.
- Inspect the housing for cracks or damage.
- Measure the resistance of the ignition coil. Refer to
Ignition Coil Not Operating Properly
.
