Removal Procedure

    Object Number: 173010 Size: SH
  1. Disconnect the battery negative cables from the batteries. Refer to Battery Cable Replacement in Engine Electrical.
  2. Remove the left or the right front wheel housing panel. Refer to Wheelhouse Panel Replacement in Body Front End.
  3. Remove the oil level indicator tube (left side). Refer to Oil Level Indicator and Tube Replacement .
  4. Remove the glow plugs from the cylinder heads.
    5. • If servicing the left exhaust manifold, refer to Glow Plug Replacement - Left Side in Engine Controls --6.5L.
    • If servicing the right exhaust manifold, refer to Glow Plug Replacement - Right Side in Engine Controls-6.5L.

  5. Remove the engine access cover panel in the cab.
  6. Remove the heat shield from the turbocharger.
  7. Remove the clamps on the exhaust pipes between the exhaust manifolds and the turbocharger.

  8. Remove the exhaust manifold bolts from the cylinder heads.
  9. Remove the exhaust manifolds from the cylinder heads.
  10. The threads on the exhaust manifold bolts
  11. Clean the sealing surface on the cylinder head.

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 68327 Size: SH
  1. Install the exhaust manifolds to the cylinder heads.

    2. Object Number: 68325 Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  2. Install the bolts for the exhaust manifolds.

    3. Tighten
    Tighten the exhaust manifold bolts to 35 N·m (26 lb ft).

  3. Install the glow plugs into the cylinder heads.
    4. • If servicing the left exhaust manifold, refer to Glow Plug Replacement - Left Side in Engine Controls --6.5L.
    • If servicing the right exhaust manifold, refer to Glow Plug Replacement - Right Side in Engine Controls-6.5L.

  4. Install the clamps on the exhaust pipe between the exhaust manifolds and the turbocharger. Refer to Turbocharger .

  5. Install the heat shield to the turbocharger.

  6. Install the engine access cover panel (in the cab).

    7. Object Number: 60238 Size: SH
  7. Install the oil level indicator and the tube (left side). Refer to Oil Level Indicator and Tube Replacement .
  8. Install the left or the right front wheel housing panel. Refer to Wheelhouse Panel Replacement in Body Front End.
  9. Connect the battery negative cables from the batteries. Refer to Battery Cable Replacement in Engine Electrical.
